Yojanni’s Dominican Style Rice

My rice game was forever changed once I had my mother-in-law’s authentic Dominican style rice. No more rice cookers or slab of butter to top off our rice for this house any more! I put this recipe together after watching her make it, and my husband will verify that it is an exact replica *praise hands emoji*.

Time: 40 minutes

Type: Side


  • 2 cups jasmine rice (the water doesn’t fully absorb in brown rice completely, so don’t replace)
  • 1 Tbsp salt
  • 3 Tbsp canola oil


  • Add 2 Tbsp of canola oil, salt, and four cups of water to a medium saucepan. Bring to boil over high heat.
  • Add rice, continue to let boil over medium heat until water is asorbed.
  • Once water is absorbed (about 10 min), add 1 Tbsp canola oil. Cover with tin foil, cover, and keep on low for 5-10 min.
